Summer in the City

All right, I'm going to date myself here, but do you remember this song by the Lovin' Spoonful? It's called Summer in the City and I remember it clearly. In fact, I remember all the words...

"Hot town,
summer in the city.
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty..."

Why do I ask? Because here in New York, although it's still officially spring, it feels like summer. And I love summer. In a big, big way. I love the way sidewalk vendors come out in force, crowds in Central Park, strappy sandals, short shorts, bronzed skin and sun-lightened hair. I love the beach, Coney Island and margaritas on the rooftop of a friend's apartment building. I love it all.

"...Cool town, evening in the city
Dressing so fine and looking so pretty..."

I realize summer is different everywhere. I've just told you the things I like most about the season, the things I do during the summer months that make me happy.

But what about you?

What do you do in the summer?

What brings you joy?

Please leave me a note here, and at the end of the day I'll choose one person to receive a download of one of my Ellora's Cave titles. Just tell us what you like about summer, what makes you happy about the warm, sultry months.

Thanks for stopping by!

I live in Florida, so my summer is spent going from AC to AC. But I love winter!! Does that count?

I remember hearing that song while riding in the backseat of my mom's car with all the windows open in the muggy, summer heat. I remember sticking to the vinyl seat and thinking who would write a song about dirty and gritty. :)

I live in Michigan and it's gorgeous...except when it's humid. Ugh - then it feels like you're breathing through a wet paper towel. But I love spending time with my kids while they're not in school. I also love the huge thunderstorms that roll in off Lake Michigan.

What a great song that one is! I can hear it in my head.

I remember that song fondly. I'm in my 40s and that reminds me of my youngest days. :) So no, you are NOT old!

In the summer, not a lot changes in my life - I still work a full time job, and read when I have time, and visit friends and family. I'm not a beach person, so I don't go to the ocean for a vacation. I visit the mountains as often as possible because I love hiking and the beautiful flora and fauna found there. I'm lucky to live near the Smoky Mountains so it's one of my favorite things to do.
